Diamond Jewelry

Most of the time when we buy diamonds, we are also buying the jewelry that they are set in. If your diamond jewelry is a more simple and classic piece of jewelry that appeals to a wider group of people, or has very elaborate work we may pay more for the item.

What is my Diamond Worth?

Many things can affect the value of your diamonds. The most important are the Four C’s
listed below:

Carat weight – The size of your diamond, measured in weight (carats). 1 Carat is equal to 0.2 grams. A 1 carat round diamond has a diameter of aproximately 6.5mm.

Clarity – This is how clean your diamond is from ipurities and inclusions. The grade of a diamond can go from Flawless (FL) to Included (I)

Color – Measures how white your diamond is. White diamonds are measured from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow/brown). Fancy colors such as canary yellow and blue or pink can fetch especially high values.

Cut – This is how well your diamond was proportioned, as well as the quality of the surface finish and the symmetry of the facets.
Besides the 4 C’s, other things can affect the value of your diamond. Sometimes diamonds are chipped or scratched after having been worn. This of course reduces the value of your diamond.

The single best thing that can increase the value of your diamond is a grading report from a reputable lab such as the GIA Gemological Laboratory.
